Gorillas are the largest primates on Earth, known for their strength, intelligence, and close genetic link to humans. Native to the forests of central Sub-Saharan Africa, they live in tight-knit family groups led by a dominant silverback male. There are two main species—eastern and western gorillas—with several subspecies, including the critically endangered mountain gorilla. Gorillas are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, stems, and fruit. Despite their powerful appearance, they are generally gentle and social animals, communicating through a rich variety of vocalizations, gestures, and facial expressions.
